Join us for a weekend of birding in the southern part of Harney County during our Birding Blitz from Thursday, June 8 to Sunday, June 11.
While the northern part of Harney County is famous among birders, the southern portion contains possibly equally good birding and even better scenery. Enjoy spectacular views of the Steens Mountains and Alvord desert while looking for Eastern Oregon specialties.
Itinerary and Registration
The headquarters for the southern Harney County Blitz will be at the Malheur Field Station. We will meet each morning or preceding evening to assign areas, coordinate efforts, and exchange information. On the mornings of June 9-11, we will break into groups and count birds in and near assigned Oregon2020 Hotspot Squares. Teams can spend the rest of the day chasing rarities or exploring interesting looking habitats. Don’t forget to bring a camera to capture all the amazing scenery!
This will be a free event. However, participants will be responsible for their own accommodations and meals. We recommend booking accommodations at nearby lodging and camping as early as possible.
Would you like to join us? Please help us plan by registering in advance.
Please specify if you would like to meet prior to surveys and/or if you have preferred birding areas or teams. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us. We look forward to seeing you there!
